Driver Killed In Fiery Somerset County Crash Crossed Over Center Lines: Police

A driver was killed when their car crossed over the center lines and struck a tree, then went up in flames over the weekend in Somerset County, authorities said.

Multiple crews responded to County Route 605 near the Blue Spring Road intersection in Montgomery Township, where they found a 2015 Toyota Corolla that had struck a tree and was consumed by flames around 7:45 a.m. Sunday, March 13, Police Lt. Silvio Bet said.

The driver, the sole occupant, was trapped in the car and later pronounced dead at the scene. Their name was being withheld pending notification.

A preliminary investigation found that the Toyota was heading north on Route 605 coming from Princeton and crossed over the double center lines into the southbound lane and then ran off the left side of the roadway and struck the tree head-on. 

Montgomery Police, the Montgomery Township Fire Department Number 1 Belle Mead, Montgomery Township Fire Department Number 2 Blawenburg, Rocky Hill Fire, Montgomery Township EMS Squad 47, Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics, and Princeton Police responded.

The name of the driver is being withheld pending notification to the family. The roadway was closed to traffic for approximately four hours during the scene investigation.

The crash is being investigated by the Montgomery Township Police Traffic Safety Bureau with assistance from the Somerset County Prosecutors Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team.
